Social Security in Jersey
People who work for eight hours or more a week in Jersey have to pay Social Security.
Social Security is 6% of your gross income.
If you’re new to the island you should go to the Employment and Social Security Department to get a Social Security card.
You give this card to your employer when you start work.
Social Security Benefits (sickness, invalidity, maternity, accident etc) depend on how long you’ve been paying contributions.
There is no unemployment benefit or jobseeker’s allowance in the island.
If you’ve lived in the island for more than five years you may be entitled to financial assistance from your Parish.
